I just use it to get an idea when I don't know what to run on a character I don't play that often or want to try something different.
Most of the builds I take from there I end up changing some of the skills and use my own preferred weapon/armor set that matches my playing style.

I use PvX.
For professions and hero builds that I don't normally play. Otherwise, I go there when I'm bored and try to get some ideas. If I do download a build, I usually end up modifying it a little bit to my liking.
I don't usually take and use farming builds from there because I don't even farm much anymore.

i prefer to be associated with people that use everyone elses epeen.
i make my own builds by looking at the skill page and where to find the boss with the elite skill i need. that is about it.
EDIT: i do use them for heroes, that is where I'm lazy :]

Taking 8 PvXwiki builds (or random builds from any source, really) and putting them together will result in failure each and every time. PvXwiki is only good as a starting point for a possible team build. Ultimately, it's important to think of a team build as 64 skills and not 8 people with 8 skills.
Great for starting some research but just going to obs mode and checking out what the best players is much ultimately better than grabbing a build off of PvXwiki. This can help you glean insight into where you should be when playing it, relevant tactics, timing of skills relative to opposing players, etc.
In low end PvP (RA & AB), PvXwiki really shines though because the comparative lack of skill of the average player in formulating and playing builds compared to yourself which gives you a tremendous advantage with very little effort.
That said, these complaints about PvXwiki can be remedied quickly by merely signing up (or not, it doesn't even matter, you can go as an anonymous user) and fixing these builds you feel are inadequate.

Same here, I write builds for my own professions, but if im making a team build or starting a new profession I use it to research. Information is power.

I use it quite often...
1- I research new combos for the professions I play.... ex. splinter/ Barrage. Frankly it had not occurred to me.
2- I mostly look at the farming builds, and adjust as needed.
3- If I have to use a paragon, dervish or assassin hero... it's a must, 'cause I have no idea how to play them.

I use it mostly for heroes, since I don't really care to make a build, then test it on a hero (since you can never be sure how well they'll use a build).
Occasionally I'll play around with a build I find, and sometimes I prefer it to what I've been running. Although, usually I end up altering it to my preference.

That's why there are articles for team builds on PvXWiki. They're evaluated as a whole, not for each build it it.
